“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

When you launch an app for the first time, what is the first thing that comes to mind? The design. That said, while almost everyone universally appreciates good design, we understand that some people focus on app functionality. We make the case that no matter how feature-rich an app is, if it has poor design then users will struggle to enjoy utilizing those features. This is why we’ve focused on developing a sleek, minimalist design for Lok.

Minimalism has become a hot trend – Gen Z and Millennials grew up witnessing brands such as Microsoft, Apple, Google and many others evolving their approach to design in this manner. Everything from the design of their logos to their products drastically changed over time. Surely, this has also been a shift by necessity as the world relies more and more on their smartphones for daily activities – an interface which has a limited amount of real estate. UI/UX designers must push their creative boundaries to achieve a compelling, spectacular, and functional design suitable for a small screen.

Nobody likes advertisements in our social media apps. We as users, carry a smartphone everywhere. We use our phone for productive purposes, for entertainment, and everything in between. But no matter what, when the app is “free” we constantly encounter something unexpected, targeted advertisements, such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and so on. Targeted advertisement is very creepy. For example, you are chatting with your friend about how you like little kittens and that you recently got one, then suddenly you are bombarded with sponsored ads featuring cat food and toys for kittens!

We think that monetization though advertisement as mentioned above is wrong. We don’t support these monetization strategies because we instead believe in protecting users’ data. We’ve drawn the line in the sand, and we take the side of privacy and security.

We would love to know your thoughts on this. Do you like minimalist designs? What is your experience with mobile advertisement? Voice your opinion on this in the comment section.
